Learn More
After reading my webpage, please contact me for more information or to schedule an intake appointment. I can be reached at 970-658-0949. When you call, you may reach my secure voicemail. Please be prepared to leave a message with your name, phone number, and best times to contact you. You do not need to state your concerns or treatment wishes in your message.
What Happens in the Initial Phone Call
Your initial phone call will take 5-20 minutes, depending upon the number of questions you have. During that call, I will provide you with an overview of the services I provide, including fees and payment. I will also describe the purpose and limits of our initial assessment and provide referrals to other therapists if you are interested in other options or not a fit for my services. If you are interested in scheduling an appointment, I will ask you several questions that are designed to help me learn more about you. This will include your referral source, basic demographics, the reasons you are considering my practice, and the concerns you hope to address in treatment.
Initial Assessment
The initial assessment will take 50 minutes unless we decide more time in necessary. You decide when you are ready to schedule an initial assessment. Some clients decide to schedule the assessment during the initial phone call. As an evidence based practice, I believe that the initial assessment is the foundation of effective therapy. This meeting is “all business” and may not feel as enjoyable as future therapy sessions. In your paperwork and your intake interview, you will answer many questions about potential difficulties and strengths. We move through the questions quickly and cover a lot of ground. This style of intake allows me to identify your concerns more quickly and begin work towards your goals sooner in therapy, usually by the first or second session.
Beginning Therapy and Committing to the Work Required
In your first session, we will discuss your assessment results and treatment recommendations (which can include individual therapy, skills training, psychiatric consultation, or referrals to local resources).
It can take some people take a few weeks to decide if therapy is right for them. My clients often have many competing demands for their time or have varying experiences with prior therapists. I am aware that you are evaluating me and that you may decide not to pursue therapy in my practice. I invite you to work with me for 4-6 weeks before you decide. Therapy is a lot like going to a personal trainer. The work is not always comfortable, but the results are worth the effort. Within the first 4-6 weeks you should have a sense about whether the therapy matches your goals and if I am a collaborative guide in helping you reach those goals.
Make an Informed Decision
I want you to make an informed decision about your treatment. You should select your treatment setting carefully and consider all options available in the community, each of which have benefits and drawbacks. I respect your ability to make a business decision about therapy. Therapy is an investment in your future, and I want you to choose wisely.
